Quelle est la différence entre l’empereur et un shogun?
La question peut paraître évidente à tous ceux qui connaissent l’histoire japonaise mais beaucoup de débutants ou de visiteurs m’ont posé la question. Ils ne sont pas les seuls : La question posait déjà des problèmes aux Européens du XIXe siècle étudiant le Japon. Comment comprendre la cohabitation durant plusieurs siècles de deux souverains qui auraient dû s'exclure mutuellement? Pourquoi n'y-a-t'il pas eu tout simplement de changement de dynastie? -

Japon-Corée (1/2) : La naissance de deux ennemis héréditaires?
Le Japon et la Corée du Sud ont une relation difficile endommagée par la mémoire de la colonisation (1905-1945) régulièrement réactivée. Ces deux pays ont pourtant des intérêts communs et coopèrent sur plusieurs plans mais s’ignorent en tant que voisins. Les difficultés entre ces deux pays si proches ne datent cependant pas de l’époque contemporaine, les relations entre le Japon et la Corée remontent à l’aube des deux pays et interroge sur le rapport du Japon avec son seul voisin immédiat. -

Le Japon est un pays de permanences particulièrement enclin à conserver traditions, institutions et pratiques même si après qu’elles aient perdu tout leur sens. C’est réducteur et partiellement inexact mais il y a un domaine où cette permanence impressionne : les familles, même parmi la simple classe marchande, qui perdurent sur des siècles dans une continuité à coté de laquelle les dynasties européennes semblent des éphémères. C’est le cas en particulier dans certaines dynasties régnantes ou guerrières qui existent toujours. Que sont-elles devenues après avoir perdu leur importance ? -

Une histoire politique de l’ère Meiji (1867-1912)
Le règne de l’empereur Meiji a été la période de l’histoire japonaise la plus riche en changements que l'on peut résumer en deux mots : restauration et modernisation. Restauration de l’autorité de l’empereur et modernisation (ou plutôt occidentalisation) dans le domaine politique, militaire, économique, social et culturel. L’ère Meiji fut le grand bond en avant du Japon vers la modernité et la reconnaissance internationale. Ses transformations sont aussi à la base d'un régime politique et de pratiques politiques qui vont rester inchangées jusqu'en 1945 et continuent aujourd'hui à influer sur les comportements politiques. Pour comprendre le Japon du XXe siècle il convient de revenir sur les étapes de l’histoire politique de Meiji.
